Remove photo data

Photos carry more than the picture: where they were taken, the phone or camera and its serial number, the time, the software and who made them. See what each one gives away, and save a copy without it.

What a photo gives away

A phone writes where each photo was taken, to within a few metres, along with the phone, its serial number and the moment. Editing apps add their name and every step. Some sites strip this; email, chat apps and shared links usually don’t.

The picture stays the same

Nothing is re-compressed: the data is cut out around the picture, which is copied byte for byte. Its colour profile and which way up it goes are kept, so it looks exactly as it did.

Never uploaded

Photos are read and cleaned in this tab. A location found in one is shown to you here and nowhere else: it isn’t looked up on a map or sent anywhere.
